How to remove BIOS password on older and slightly newer computers

The CMOS

This guide is for accessing the BIOS when you cant access it because of the password protect.

Draining the power supply

Estimated time: 1s-1h

There is often a small battery on the motherboard that can be removed to drain the power on the motherboard. Even if the battery is removed the motherboard can store power up to 1 hour. The time that it takes for the power to drain differs between computers.

Do as follow:

1. Unplug all cords and main batteries.
2. Open up the case so you can see the interior.
3. Touch a radiator, to lead any static electricity away from you. (You might accidentally unload a bolt into your motherboard)
4. Unplug the battery. (There is often a small "hinge" that you can unplug the battery with)

Resetting the BIOS with jumper

Estimated time: instant

There are often a small reset button (marked: "reset BIOS") right next to the battery, that can reset the core programming to its original state. It is quite small and says: "click" when pressed. (This is a procedure you are recommended with)
